2025 KF-이화 “현대 한국-리투아니아 문학과 번역 세미나” 성료 2025 KF-이화 “현대 한국-리투아니아 문학과 번역 세미나” 성료 (한국문학 세계화 가능성 조명… 학생들 “문학의 힘을 체감한 시간”) 이화여자대학교 국제대학원 한국학과는 지난 11월 10일부터 14일까지 ‘현대 한국-리투아니아 문학과 번역 세미나(Contemporary Korean–Lithuanian Literature & Translation Seminar)’를 개최했다. 이번 행사는 리투아니아에서 한국문학이 번역·출판·수용되는 현황을 공유하고, 문학의 세계화 과정에서 번역의 역할과 문화적 의미를 고찰하기 위해 마련되었다. 전체 프로그램은 리투아니아 미콜라스 로메리스 대학교 인문학연구소 소속이자 빌뉴스 세종학당 원장인 Lora Tamošiūnienė 교수가 맡아 진행했다. 첫날 특강에서는 한국문학 번역과 비평이 리투아니아에서 어떻게 이뤄져 왔는지 개괄적으로 소개했으며, 이후 4일간 이어진 세미나에서 △현대 리투아니아 시와 번역 △리투아니아 현대 산문 △한국어 텍스트의 리투아니아어 ‘자연 번역’ △제2외국어 학습자를 위한 시 번역 교육 등 다양한 주제를 통해 실제 번역 사례와 쟁점을 다루었다. Tamošiūnienė 교수는 한국문학이 해외 독자에게 정서적 울림을 주는 점을 강조하며 “번역은 단순히 언어를 바꾸는 기술이 아닌, 문화를 잇는 창구”라고 강조 했다. 또한 한국과 리투아니아 문학이 전쟁, 상실, 기억을 공유한다는 점에서 두 문학이 자연스럽게 연결되며, 이러한 보편적 정서가 한국문학의 세계적 확산에 중요한 기반이 된다고 설명했다. 학생들은 이번 세미나가 한국문학의 해외 수용 과정을 이해하는 데 큰 도움이 되었다고 평가했다. 한국학과 석사 과정 박찬미 학생은 “한국문학이 리투아니아 독자와 감정적으로 연결된다는 점이 인상적이었다”며 “한국문학의 세계적 영향력을 직접 들을 수 있어 큰 동기부여가 됐다”고 말했다. 또 다른 참석자인 Nguyen Thi Thu Dung 학생은 “앞으로 한국어 교재나 문화 수업에서 문학을 어떻게 활용할 수 있을지 고민해보는 계기가 됐다”고 소감을 전했다. 이번 세미나는 한국문학이 주변부를 넘어 세계문학의 한 축으로 자리할 가능성을 확인한 의미 있는 자리였다. 한국학과는 앞으로도 다양한 언어권 연구와 국제 문화교류 프로그램을 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 계획이라고 밝혔다.2025 - 10 - 10

태국국제한국어교육학회, 첫 회장에 본교 국제대학원 한국학과 동문 수파펀 분룽 교수 취임 태국국제한국어교육학회, 첫 회장에 본교 국제대학원 한국학과 동문 수파펀 분룽 교수 취임 태국 내 한국어교육의 비약적 성장을 기반으로, “태국한국어교육학회”가 공식 출범했다. 현재 태국에는 총 19개 대학에서 한국어 전공이 개설되어 있으며, 약 3,300명의 학부생이 한국어를 수강하고 있다. 또한 중등학교 한국어 학습자 수는 약 4만 명에 달해, 한국어에 대한 수요와 관심이 지속적으로 확대되고 있다. 지난 8월 2일에 열린 제1회 태국국제한국어교육학회에서 태국 쭐라롱껀대학교 인문대학 한국어학과 수파펀 분룽 교수가 학회의 첫 회장으로 취임했다. 수파펀 교수는 본교 국제대학원 한국학과에서 한국어교육 전공으로 2021년 박사학위를 취득했으며, 현재 쭐라롱껀대학교 아시아학연구진흥센터 소장과 한국학센터 소장을 맡고 있다. 2007년 쭐라롱껀대학교 한국어학과 교수로 부임한 이후, 2018년 한국어 전공을 개설하며 학과 성장을 위한 초석을 다졌다. 태국 내 한국어교육과 한국학 연구의 기반을 확고히 한 결과 2023년에는 대한민국 교육부 장관 표창과 쭐라롱껀대학교 총장 표창을 수상하였으며, 인문대학 최초로 외국인 정년 교수가 채용되는 성과를 이루어내기도 했다. 또한 동문으로서의 활동과 성과도 높이 평가되어, 2018년 Ewha Ambassador로 선정되었고, 2025년에는 송클라나카린대학교 동문상을 받은 바 있다. 수파펀 분룽 교수 박용민 주태국 대한민국 대사와 수파펀 분룽 교수 태국국제한국어교육학회는 국내외 다양한 분야의 연구자와 전문가들이 한국어교육의 현황을 분석하고 미래 방향을 모색하는 소중한 학술의 장이 될 것으로 기대된다. 이번 학회에서는 학술적 시너지를 창출하고 국제 연구 네트워크를 확대하는 데 주력했으며, 태국 내 고등교육기관 한국어 교원 네트워크 회의도 함께 열려 학회 설립을 위한 구체적인 논의가 이루어졌다. 태국, 한국, 베트남, 말레이시아, 라오스, 싱가포르 등 6개국에서 총 30편의 연구 논문이 발표되었으며, 태국 내 19개 대학의 한국어학과장과 교수진 등 약 100여 명이 참석해 활발한 논의가 이어졌다. 태국국제한국어교육학회 개회식 이번 학회 출범과 함께 태국 한국어교육계는 한층 더 체계적이고 국제적인 연구 협력 기반을 마련하게 되었으며, 자랑스러운 이화인 수파펀 분룽 회장의 리더십 아래 태국 한국어교육의 새로운 도약이 기대된다.2025 - 08 - 13
2025 KF-이화여대 글로벌 e-스쿨 펠로십 환영 만찬 개최 2025 KF-이화여대 글로벌 e-스쿨 펠로십 환영 만찬 개최 이화여자대학교 국제대학원 한국학과는 8월 7일(목) 국제교육관에서 ‘2025 KF-이화여대 글로벌 e-스쿨 펠로십(KF-Ewha Global e-School Fellowship)’ 환영 만찬을 열었다. KF-이화여대 글로벌 e-스쿨은 한국국제교류재단(Korea Foundation, KF)이 주최하고 이화여대가 주관하는 글로벌 한국학 인재 양성 프로그램으로, 해외 대학 학생들에게 한국학 강좌와 세미나를 실시간 화상으로 제공하며 전 세계 한국학 연구를 지원하고 있다. 2011년 이해영 국제대학원 한국학과 교수(전 세종학당재단 이사장)가 시작해 올해로 15년째를 맞았으며, 현재 박선희 교수가 총괄 책임을 맡고 있다. 2024년에는 KF-이화 글로벌 e-스쿨에 총 8개국 22개 대학이 참여했고, 850여명의 수강생이 한국학·한국어 강의를 수강하였다. 이 가운데 우수 수강생을 선발해 마련된 이날 펠로십 만찬에는 한국국제교류재단 임상일 차장과 이현주 대리, 이화여대 측 연구진인 박선희 교수(한국학과), 이해영 교수(한국학과), 최형용 교수(국어국문학과), 김세완 교수(경제학과)를 비롯한 내외빈이 참석해 참가자들을 격려하였다. 올해 펠로십에는 2024년 KF-이화여대 글로벌 e-스쿨 수강자 중 우수한 성적을 거둔 학생들인 ▲베트남 호찌민 인사대학교 Nguyễn Hương Giang, ▲리투아니아 빌니우스대학교 Anastasiia Ivleva, ▲불가리아 소피아대학교 Lena Jovanovic, ▲태국 쭐라롱껀대학교 Tanida Kongcharoen, ▲일본 와세다대학교 Fujioka Yumi가 선발됐다. 참가자들은 “이스쿨 강의를 들으면서 한국학에 대한 관심이 한국 대학으로 진학을 꿈꾸게 됐으며, 이번 펠로십 참여가 진로를 탐색하는 데 큰 도움이 될 것 같다”고 소감을 전했다. 총괄 책임을 맡고 있는 박선희 교수는 “KF-이화 글로벌 e-스쿨을 통해 전 세계에 한국어와 한국학의 저변을 넓혀온 것은 매우 뜻깊은 일이며 이번 펠로십 참가자들이 한국과 자국을 잇는 가교 역할을 하고, 세계 무대에서 활약하는 글로벌 인재로 성장하기를 기대한다”고 말했다. 이들은 8월 4일부터 18일까지 본교 하계대학(Ewha International Summer College)에 참여해 한국어 수업, 한국학 특강, 문화 체험 활동 등을 통해 한국학과 한국문화를 폭넓게 경험할 예정이다.2025 - 07 - 29
한국학과, 태국 현지 초·중등 한국어 교원 양성 방한연수 성황리에 개최 국제대학원 한국학과에서 개최한 태국 현지 초·중등학교 한국어 교원 양성 방한연수 프로그램이 성황리에 마무리되었다. 본 연수는 태국한국교육원이 주최하고 이화여자대학교와 태국 왕립쭐라롱껀대학교가 공동 주관하는 한국어 교원 양성 사업의 일환으로, 7월 20일(일)부터 29일(화)까지 10일간 진행되었다. 이번 프로그램에는 2025년 태국 왕립쭐라롱껀대학교 비학위 한국어 교원 양성과정을 우수하게 수료한 예비 및 현직 교사 15명이 참가하여 한국어 교육 역량을 강화하고 한국 문화를 직접 체험하는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다. 7월 21일(월) 개최된 개회식은 태국한국교육원 최원석 원장의 환영사를 시작으로 왕립쭐라롱껀대학교 수파펀 분룽 교수의 격려사와 이화여자대학교 박선희 교수의 개회사가 이어졌으며, 이화여자대학교 이해영 교수가 참석하여 축하와 격려를 전했다, 참가자들은 한국어 교원으로서의 열정과 기대감을 안고 본격적인 연수에 돌입했다. 연수는 이화여대 국제대학원 한국학과 이해영 교수의 기조강연 「소통의 관점에서 본 한글과 한국어」를 시작으로 노상호 교수의 「한국의 사회와 문화」, 천경효 교수의 「한국의 문화유산」 등 다채로운 특강으로 구성되었으며, 참가자들은 교육 실습, 문화체험, 안동 및 경주 역사유적지 탐방 등을 통해 한국과 한국어에 대한 실질적인 이해를 넓혔다. 태국은 한국어 교육 수요가 높은 국가로, 2018년부터 대학입시 시험인 PAT 과목에 한국어가 포함되었으며, 2023년부터는 A-Level 외국어 과목으로 재편되어 현재까지도 선택 과목으로 운영되고 있다. 이에 따라 전문성을 갖춘 한국어 교원 양성에 대한 관심과 필요가 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 방한연수를 총괄한 박선희 교수(이화여대 국제대학원 한국학과)는 “이번 연수가 태국 예비 및 현직 교사들의 실질적인 교육 역량을 제고하고 한국 문화에 대한 깊이 있는 체험을 제공한 뜻깊은 자리였다”며, “향후에도 한국어 교육에 대한 열정을 바탕으로 태국 현지 교육에 기여할 훌륭한 교사로 성장해 주기를 기대한다”고 소감을 전했다.2024 - 08 - 23

While English has long been a key language offering access to a wider world, Korean is now emerging as a significant language with similar potential, according to Lee Hai-young, president of the King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF). She views the learning experience at the King Sejong Institute as a launchpad for new opportunities. "My hope is for studying Korean at the King Sejong Institute to serve as a passport for students, opening doors to new dreams and even lives," Lee said during an interview with The Korea Times at a hotel in Jung District, Seoul, Aug. 9. "My wish is to place that passport in the hands of as many learners as possible." Since its establishment in 2012 under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF) has been dedicated to promoting Korean language and culture. By managing and supporting a network of King Sejong Institutes, which began in 2007, the foundation has transformed these centers into gateways that offer students worldwide not only language skills but also valuable personal and professional opportunities. Lee, a pioneer professor in Korean language education at Ewha Womans University, began her three-year term as the third president of the KSIF in September 2021. During her tenure, Lee observed a significant shift in how students approach learning Korean. "Examining the students opting to learn Korean, I saw they weren't just learning it as a hobby ... Initially, they might have been drawn to Korean because of the dazzling hallyu, or the Korean wave. But ultimately, most of their goals transform into using Korean as a stepping stone to the next stage of their lives. The interest sparked by hallyu becomes a tool for individual realization and, at the same time, a driving force for the growth of local industries," Lee explained. "This is why my greatest goal and source of pride during my tenure is to transform our institutes into places where newly enrolled Korean language students, inspired by hallyu, can envision their next steps, whether that means studying abroad or securing a job at a Korean company." Lee also highlighted that promoting Korean language education could help address Korea's declining population. "We're facing a labor shortage, and ideally, we would have high-quality foreign workers who are proficient in Korean language and culture to support and adapt effectively. However, achieving this integration presents challenges," Lee said. "For instance, while Uzbekistan and Nepal were part of Korea's Employment Permit System, they lacked King Sejong Institutes, resulting in insufficient Korean language education. To address this, we recently expanded our institutes in Uzbekistan to enhance language training for the workforce there before they come to work in Korea." Courtesy of King Sejong Institute Foundation Ever-growing interest Twelve years after its founding, the KSIF has experienced a dramatic increase in the number of students. When the first King Sejong Institute opened in Mongolia in 2007, it had a relatively small enrollment of 740 students. However, following the establishment of the foundation for systematic support five years later, the number of students surged to over 216,000, reflecting a growing global interest in Korean culture and professional opportunities in Korea. According to the KSIF president, the number of students on waiting lists has reached approximately 15,000 due to the limited number of institutes. "With the growing desire for employment in Korean companies and related businesses, we are seeing an annual increase of 44 percent in student numbers," Lee said. "Therefore, our foundation is actively researching where to open new institutes and exploring various methods to reach more students." Currently, King Sejong Institutes are located in 256 venues across 88 countries. In June, the network expanded with the introduction of 18 new institutes in 15 countries, including Nepal and Cuba. Lee particularly emphasized the significance of the new institute in Cuba, noting that the Caribbean country, which has historically been more aligned with North Korea than South Korea, established diplomatic relations with Seoul in February. "This new Sejong Institute could mark the first tangible achievement since our diplomatic ties began. We anticipate it will expand Korean language education and serve as a cultural exchange hub in Latin America, where interest in learning Korean is high," she said. Despite the expansion, the number of institutes still falls short of demand. To address this gap, Lee introduced the Metaverse King Sejong Institute. "In 2022, we launched an online classroom called the Metaverse King Sejong Institute. Unlike traditional video-based classes, which may seem impersonal, this platform offers a sense of belonging by allowing students to engage in role-playing and interact in a shared virtual space, effectively simulating a real Korean language learning environment," she explained. "We are seeing promising results as the Metaverse King Sejong Institute evolves into a leading medium for immersive online Korean language education, satisfying many learners." In December 2021, this European hub was established to effectively support 21 institutes across nine European countries. Lee was particularly moved by a lecture delivered by French writer Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, the 2008 Nobel Laureate in Literature, during the center's opening ceremony held in November 2022. "The writer remarked at the time, 'There is nothing that cannot be written in Hangeul. King Sejong created characters that can transcribe any language in the world, making reading and writing incredibly easy.' I found these words profoundly touching," she recalled. "It was wonderful to see a renowned foreign writer appreciate the value of our language, its founder and the King Sejong Institute. It felt like the beginning of the institute's journey to expand globally." As the world starts to acknowledge the significance of the Korean language, Lee emphasized the intrinsic value of learning Korean. "Learning Korean is a fantastic endeavor," Lee said. "It's a language with rising global prestige and a tool that can lead to economic success. However, I hope that students take pride in and enjoy the sheer act of learning Korean, beyond just seeing it as a means to achieve something."
