About GDKS

Ewha GSIS Department of Korean Studies (GDKS) is the place for people who are passionate and enthusiastic about Korean Studies. In the midst of rapid globalization, students from all over the world and with diverse background gather to study and research to answer questions like what it means to live as Koreans, what aspects define Koreaness, etc.

GDKS was founded in March, 1982. It was first in its kind to recognize Korean studies as the academic field in universities within Korea and it was established with research focus in Korea.

GDKS offers two majors: 1) Korean Culture and 2) Teaching Korean as Second Language.
1) Korean Culture major program aims to help students cultivate knowledge in the area of Korean society and culture. The program offers various courses to expand knowledge on Korea and define research area.
2) Teaching Korean as a Second Language major aims to develop teaching experts. The program offers both theoretical and training courses to support students to teach and study Korean effectively as second language.
